  19. Who: ALL Commodore PET owners (and
  20. everyone else!)
  21.  
  22. What?: A 10-day event to celebrate
  23. the Commodore PET, in particular OUR
  24. Commodore PETs. It will be all about
  25. showing off funky PETs to one
  26. another....and you don't need to be
  27. a PET owner to join in the fun!
  28.  
  29. Here's how it will work. During the
  30. period listed above, a special
  31. events thread will be created. In
  32. that thread, Commodore PET owners
  33. will be encouraged to upload
  34. pictures or video of their PETS for
  35. comment, and to generally show them
  36. off. You can dress them up, show
  37. them doing something, or just let
  38. others see what you have! It will be
  39. the perfect excuse to drag that old
  40. PET out of the garage, clean it up
  41. and see if it goes!

  43. Even dead or sick PETS can be shown.
  44. If your PET falls into this
  45. category, our PET Vets (resident PET
  46. experts) may be able to suggest what
  47. the problem could be in a special
  48. PET Hospital thread associated with
  49. the event week!

  51. There is more. veteran vintage
  52. enthusiast Earl Evans, who many will
  53. know from his Retrobits Podcast,
  54. will be checking the uploads. At the
  55. end of the event Earl will announce
  56. awards for the best photos or videos
  57. in the following categories:
  58.  
  59. 1.Best DRESSED PET (adorned with
  60. props, perhaps showing a theme)
  61.  
  62. 2.Best BEHAVED PET (A PET doing
  63. something?perhaps running a program,
  64. showing some graphics, operating
  65. some equipment etc.)
  66.  
  67. 3.Best GROOMED PET (The cleanest PET
  68. which is in tip-top shape externally)
  69.  
  70. 4.Most NEGLECTED PET (Something we
  71. should call the Pet protection
  72. agencies about!)
  73.  
  74. These categories are not necessarily
  75. exclusive and one display could
  76. collect several of the awards. Earl
  77. is even likely to show off his own
  78. machine (removed from the
  79. competition of course).
  80.  
  81. Anything that is a PET qualifies.
  82. This means models from the original
  83. 2001 to the SuperPET or their CBM
  84. equivalents.

  86. Don't own a PET? No worries!...enjoy
  87. the show and partipate with comments
  88. and feedback on the images and
  89. videos.

  91. A few other details?
  92.  
  93. * Uploading photos and video. Please
  94. use Youtube for any videos. If you
  95. have more than one or two photos
  96. consider using Flickr or other photo
  97. services to show them off. We don't
  98. want to overload the VCF server.
  99. Don't use a service that requires
  100. people to register just to see them
  101. though.

  103. * Images and video should be
  104. original and should have been
  105. created for this event. This does
  106. not preclude citing links to
  107. existing PET images and video on the
  108. Web which you think might be
  109. interesting to others, in context of
  110. PET discussions during the week.
  111. Make sure it is just a link though
  112. and make it obvious that it's
  113. pre-existing.
  114.  
  115. * Our PET vets can give you some
  116. advice for broken PETs but they will
  117. be under no obligation to commit to
  118. a diagnostic discussion. Some
  119. problems can be tricky, require a
  120. high degree of technical skill and
  121. even during PET Alive!, people have
  122. off-line lives. They should be able
  123. to suggest where you might start to
  124. look though.

  126. * Just PETS. No CBM IIs, Vic 20s or
  127. C64 please. Save them for the next
  128. show (-:

  130. * There will be no prize for an
  131. award, just Kudos. The competition
  132. is just a lighthearted enhancement
  133. to add some zip so don't shy away
  134. from showing off YOUR PET even if
  135. you don't think it's got a dog's
  136. show of winning. No matter what its
  137. state...snap it and let us see what
  138. you've got!

  144. All PETs need exercise now and
  145. again, so wake yours up, clean it up
  146. and get it ready for the show!
